A new light bulb will hit the market in August this year...
A new light bulb will hit the market in August this year, 2009. The Compact Fluorescent Light(CFL) is overtaking the old incadescent Edison bulb because it uses less energy. The old incadescent bulb while using more energy is actually safer!
I have debated the differences here and on other sites because the CFL contains mercury. Some say its minimal. If it is so minimal why do you have to air the room out for 30 minutes and be particularly careful in picking up the pieces of glass if you break one. Cellotape(or Cleartape) should be used to pick up these glass pieces.
To me it was a case of energy savings against safety!
But help is on the way!
The age of the Clear-lite "Armorlite" light bulb is almost at hand. The new bulb looks like an incadescent light bulb. In fact it is a CFL hidden inside an incadescent bulb. It prevents the spread of mercury. A silicon, unbreakable, ballooon light skin is wrapped around the outer light bulb; if it breaks the mercury will be contained internally.
The bulb will be released in August onto the market by Clear-lite, a small company in Parkland, Florida.
The age of the Clear-lite "Armorlite" bulb is at hand - Clearly better...Clearly Greener. We will find out in time!
It will feature in the September issue of the Popular Science magazine.
