Polar blast hits New Zealand again...
Mother Nature has had her second crack at us this winter, with a polar blast right up the country. Snow around Wellington, and here in Lower Hutt it is still snowing. The lawn has been like a very heavy frost. Normally any snow melts immediately, but its cold enough now to stick on the ground a little. Even up in Auckland they have had their worst snow since 1939. We normally just get sleat here, but the lower temperatures have turned it to genuine snow.
Down in the traditional snowy areas in Dunedin and Invercargill schools have been closed, and the three airports in Invercargill, Dunedin and Queenstown have closed. Bit dicy in Christchurch too. I know the Christchurch International Airport was closed a few hours ago, but not sure what is happening at present. Weather reports predict some easing by tomorrow morning.
Poor old Christchurch. Some people have to walk close to a half mile to empty their chemical toilets once a week at the collection points. There are still people who have been using portaloos since last September when the first quake struck. Can you just imagine walking down the street to use a portaloo in a snowstorm and somebody has beaten you to it, and you have to wait?
