The ultimate brain food...

Kiwi researchers have found the technique to add a potentially life saving fish oil extract that contains Omega-3 - the brain food - to a range of food, thus possibly preventing a range of diseases such as heart problems and Alzheimer's.There is a financial benefit - money to be made; millions of dollars could be made in worldwide exports!
A joint venture between Massey University's food science Riddell Centre, the Manawatu BioCommerce Centre and Speirs Food, was announced this week. A consortium called Speirs Nutritionals has been formed and will internationally market a new kind of Omega 3 emulsion that can be added to other foods without the lingering taste and smell of fish that had plagued earlier experiments.
Omega-3, a fatty acid extracted from fish oil, is considered essential for normal growth in children and has widespread health benefits for adults too.People are recommended to take 450-500 milligrams of Omega-3 daily. The technology puts the oil into microscopic capsules which have been trialled in muffins, cereal bars, milk, smoothies and yoghurt.
Now you know why they always said that fish was brain food!
By next March the company plans to complete a $2.7 million plant to process the fish oil and export millions of dollars of it to North America and Europe.
The company's technology means that large doses of Omega-3 can be put into food and make a meaningful contribution to people's health. And it has been achieved in little old New Zealand, deep down in the South Pacific, in an area more known for its sporting achievements.
