Today is Blog Action Day - what is real poverty you may ask? - poverty is relative...
The definition of poverty is deprivation and the denial of access to those things which make a life of dignity possible, including not only food, shelter and safe drinking water but also the intangibles as the opportunity to learn, to engage in meaningful employment or to enjoy the respect of ones' fellows. Follow my LINK at the end of the post.
I have written that poverty is relative to the society you live in and have been brought up in. In Africa, Asia and some Pacific Island communities it can mean a lack of food and safe water to drink, clothing and adequate shelter. In European first world countries it can mean a struggle to provide for your families, it can mean you are out of work for a long time and have to struggle on a welfare pittance; it can mean you are unable to participate properly in your community; you may not be able to participate in community groups and sporting teams, support your childrens education etc.
Poverty is so varied and extensive in meaning and reality!
