Villagers party in New Year dance with skulls and baby corpse...

While the New Zealand Parliament is in recess, the anti-smacking legislation has been temporarily put on hold.
So I've looked around at something else to write about today. Its not writers block, or anything like that. I was looking through one of Sunday papers today, and something caught my eye.
A report from India described how villagers in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal celebrated their new year by parading and dancing with unearthed skulls and the corpse of a baby, which prompted a police investigation.
The " Naramundo Khela"(Skull Game) is a ritual that appears to take place only in the village of Sona Palesi. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, a Hindu deity who is depicted by a snake around his neck, and marks the start of the Bengalii New Year on April15.
As part of the festival, some villagers carrying skulls and daggers danced to rhythmic drum beats with their bodies covered in white ash and spotted with red and green paints as about 2000 people watched. One villager danced with the corpse of a baby. Villagers say they have carried out this ritual in previous years. Where the corpses of babies come from wasn't explained.
